Route
The Weierhof is nowadays a part of the community Bolanden, that itself is part of the county Kirchheimbolanden.
This county can be found in the northern part of the Palatinate, there where the Palatinate and the Rhine-Hess area meet each other. On the eastside of the county you will find the Wonnegau, an area with the city of Worms as its economical center. Worms and the city of St. Albans in the UK are maintaining a city partnership.
The Weierhof can be found about 20 km west from Worms at the end of the Zeller valley.
The entire area is well known for its excellent wines. About 35 km south of the Weierhof, you will find the city of Kaiserslautern, whereas Mainz is to be found about 55 km northeast of the Weierhof.
Within the radius of approximate 75 km you may find many sights of interest.
Directly at the front door the Donnersberg (Mount
Thunder) rises with about 680 m above sea level as one of the highest
hills in the entire Palatinate. The whole area is rich of forests
and one can do excellent outdoor sporting such as tracking, mountain
biking, horse riding and of course enjoy the many lovely overviews.
Only a few kilometers away, a number of
international
tracks, including a feeding line to the famous St. Jacobs'
Camino
route and an international track from Ireland to Bulgaria. The
famous Palatinate Forest starts only 40 KM south of the Weierhof. It
is one of the largest forest areas in Germany.
Visit
Mainz,
Worms or Speyer for their
impressing cathedrals. And on top of that, Worms will offer you a
historical center including the remainders of a large Jewish
cemetery, a traditional Jewish Mikwa (ritiual bath) and of course
the historic sites of Martin Luther and the legend of Siegfried the
Dragonfighter.
Mainz offers a nice city center and its specialty the Gutenbergmuseum, whereas Speyer during the past years time after time offered most interesting exhibitions on historic themens such as the Salinger or the Vikings. Besides that, Speyer has a remarkable technical museum with many full scale objects such as a Boeing 747, a submarine and of course the Russian space shuttle Buran.
